Making Moves with Breakdancing Shakespeare

That’s right. Breakdancing and Shakespeare. B-Boys and the Bard. It was a summer of breaking, beatboxing, and soliloquies for a group of 16 teens. They spent hours rehearsing their moves and their lines to bring Hamlet to life with a modern twist.

Altogether, over sixty teens participated in the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s Neighborhood Studios program in the summer of 2015. Groups of apprentices worked in studios across Connecticut’s capitol city for six weeks, preparing for a final showcase of their talent. Before the apprentices from Hartford Stage’s Breakdancing Shakespeare studio performed Hamlet in front of three SOLD OUT crowds at the University of Hartford, they showcased their dancing skills to fellow apprentices at Hartford Public Library.
