Arts Innovation Day 2016

“You can’t solve a problem on the same level that it was created. You have to rise above it to the next level.”

A quote attributed to Albert Einstein that couldn’t be more fitting to describe the intention of the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s first ever Arts Innovation Day. On June 3, 2016 more than one hundred talented individuals from the arts and business communities came together to exchange information, stories and ideas that will move them beyond business as usual and take the arts to the next level. Sixty two organizations and over a dozen individual artists were present in one room.

The Arts Council created Arts Innovation Day for two reasons.

First, it’s part of our mission to provide organizational resources to the arts and culture community so that nonprofit arts organizations can continue to thrive and create a vibrant community. We wanted to think about innovation in a broad sense; it’s more than a brilliant, out of the box idea. To sustain innovation it is important to know how to tell your story, have a strong digital marketing plan, and have the right people in the right places.

Second, through our partnerships with local businesses, we know that the region’s companies are always looking for ways to give back and to get their employees more engaged in the community. So, here was an exciting opportunity to bring these two groups together to exchange ideas, share stories, and learn from one another. We are grateful that corporate partners like Aetna, the Hartford, Prudential Retirement, Travelers, Webster Bank, Robinson + Cole, and a number of friends from the nonprofit and writing communities joined up to share their insight.
